Mahir

Ethiopia

Mahir is a 3-year-old boy from Dessie, Ethiopia.

Mahir was admitted to the Wolfson Medical Center through Save a Child’s Heart for evaluation and repair of his congenital heart disease in January, 2018. 

Mahir’s father, Seid, works as both a farmer and a businessman and his mother works as a housewife. Mahir is the only child in his family. His mother is the primary caretaker at home and was able to travel with him to Israel. 

When Mahir was nine-months-old he began to refuse food, which sent him to a hospital 10 hours from home. Eventually he was able to come to Israel for treatment at the Wolfson Medical Center.

Congenital heart disease is a type of defect or malformation in one or more structures of the heart or blood vessels that occurs before birth. Congenital heart disease is responsible for more deaths in the first year of life than any other birth defect.When he gets older, Mahir wants to be a biker.

On February 26, 2019 Mahir underwent life-saving heart surgery in Israel. Mahir is an energetic little boy who loves bright colors and really enjoys playing with toy cars. When he gets older, Mahir wants to be a biker. The SACH team is excited to give Mahir a second chance at a healthy life.
